Just a 10 minute drive from downtown Hendersonville, Jump Off Rock is a great place to visit if you like hiking, stunning mountain views, or just reading a book in the afternoon sun on one of the park's benches. Jump Off Rock is a favorite destination for bicyclists from Hendersonville as the ride up the mountain is great exercise, the view is a great reward, and the ride back down the mountain is a blast.Carl Sandburg Home
Carl Sandburg was a famous poet who moved to Flat Rock, NC in 1945 to have peace and solitude and to have a spectacular place to continue his writings. Today the Carl Sandburg Home is a National Historic site. The estate offers a beautiful place to go when you want to get away, a world away. There are over 5 miles of hiking trails on 264 acres, including 2 ponds, pastures and 2 mountains.Flat Rock Playhouse

DuPont State Forest is located between Brevard and Hendersonville and is truly the land of waterfalls. The forest contains about 10,400 acres of waterfalls, trails, and forest. Come and see Hooker Falls, High Falls, Triple Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, Wintergreen Falls, and Grassy Rock Falls. While your there, visit Cedar Creek and Stone Mountain as well. You can also go horseback riding, mountain biking, hunting, fishing, and hiking in the forest:Mountain Biking
Bring your bike down to DuPont and tear up the 90 different trails! From your bike you can see great views of the crystal clear waterfalls and secluded lakes. Get your adrenaline pumping as you race your way down the hills. Feel the wind brush by your face and take in the pure beauty of the forest.
Hiking
If you are looking for a leisurely day in the park, one of the various trails may be for you. Weather you are looking to lose weight, or simply enjoy the views, the trails are for you. They are open all day to everyone.
Fishing
To fish in DuPont State Forest's streams, you must not only have a regular fishing license, but also a special trout fishing license. You are not allowed to fish within 300 feet of the tops of the waterfalls, and no night fishing is allowed. From June 1 to September 30 are the only times that you may keep trout that you catch.
Hunting
Hunting is allowed in DuPont State Forest, but you must have a permit. When hunting outside the safety zones, you should wear bright colors. You are allowed to hunt turkey, deer, and small game during the appropriate hunting seasons.
Horseback Riding
Many trails in DuPont State Forest are horse friendly. Make sure to check the signs at the beginning of the trail to know what kind of transportation is allowed on the trail. If you bring a horse, make sure that you have recent coggins. You will be asked to leave otherwise.
